BENGALURU: Two Nigerians who allegedly cheated a city-based doctor of Rs 6 lakh were arrested by Malleshwaram police on Tuesday.
The Nigerians, David Orami, 23, and Colis Ralch, 41, befriended the doctor identified as Kumar, a resident of Malleshwaram and promised the doctor to get him a high-end imported car. Later they changed the offer and promised the doctor that they will part with Rs 2.5 crore worth of US $ 5 lakh they had in their possession for a discount.
“The duo demanded Rs 6 lakh from the doctor which he paid, but the promised US $ was not delivered. As the doctor started pestering them for his money, the placed a fresh demand of Rs 5 lakh. Suspecting their intention, the doctor tipped off the Malleshwaram police who caught both after laying a trap,” additional commissioner of police (west) Alok Kumar said.
Police said Colins had come to the city nearly four-and-a-half years ago on a student visa and has been overstaying, while Orami had come to India six months ago. Both of them had met each other in Mumbai and later came to city. “We are checking whether the duo were involved in any more similar cases,” police said. Bot has been remanded to judicial custody.
